About Air Italy
Headquartered in Olbia, Air Italy S.p.A. is a scheduled and charter carrier with its hub at Malpensa Airport. The airline was established in 2005 by a consortium of investors to serve leisure markets across Africa, the Indian Ocean and the Caribbean. The airline merged with fellow Italian carrier, Meridiana in Apr-2013, and remained under its own Air Operator's Certificate and operates services on behalf of Meridiana. Air Italy is owned by Alisarda (51%) and Qatar Airways (49%). Its fleet consists of narrowbody and widebody equipment.
In Feb-2018, Meridiana announced it would rebrand to Air Italy as part of a wider business plan to reach 10 million passengers handled p/a by 2022. Eight new aircraft to be added in 2018, comprising three Boeing 737 MAX and five A330-200s. Air Italy confirmed a commitment to receive 20 new 737 MAX aircraft over three years, while the A330s will be sourced from Qatar Airways as it replaces the aircraft with 787s. The airline took delivery of its first Boeing 737 MAX on 11-May-2018. Air Italy plans to operate 50 aircraft by 2022.
